From the calendar back:

As I created this calendar, I underwent my annual practice of reflection to tease out what the unique aspects of the previous year could teach me about the 12 months to come. A realization emerged as I combed through artworks produced and the circumstances surrounding each moon: this year was a collection of hills to be scaled. I have been battling an autoimmune condition called Grave’s Disease since last fall and it leaves me drained of energy, racked with migraines, and unable to predict my corporeal state on any given day. But! The Ides of time are ceaseless and ignorant of our struggles; life endures. During this battle my infant became a toddler, we moved, and I took on an ambitious painting schedule for my first museum exhibition.

I have had to learn to adapt to my new normal, adjusting my life around the sharp edges that erupt without warning. I have to go with the flow.  Much as any drop of water will eventually reach the sea, I’ve learned to trust that I will eventually see the lighthouses marking the shores of those oceans I deeply yearn to reach. But also like the water, the route meanders. Sometimes the path is swift and true, elsewhere it braids around so many rocks. Often it lazily pools, gathering up energy before spilling over and moving on. Perhaps most importantly, I have begun to stop and observe the beauty of what all that moving water left in her wake. Much as the great canyons of the American Southwest are simply maps of a river’s travel over time, our lives are our canyons. What jewels did your river carve out? What glorious peaks and valleys spread out behind you?

This calendar is a compilation of meditations on water. Each month’s painting is paired with a song that evokes the feelings of that season for me. As we look to 2025, perhaps you will join me in accepting whatever challenges lie ahead, and finding some peace in simply observing
where the water goes…
