My best friend is getting married this year at Arapahoe Valley Ranch, an expansive backcountry ranch nestled between Granby and Monarch Lakes in the Colorado Rockies. Throughout our twenties she taught me about the quiet peace of spending “golden hour” - the hour before sunset when the light turns pink - in a beautiful outdoor setting as often as possible, preferably with a beer in hand to aid in the contemplation of how lucky we are to be alive on this epic planet. I painted this depiction of the ranch at sunset as an ode to her new chapter of partnership, and to commemorate what she taught me about love during so many rich hours together in beautiful places.
