I painted Lakeview from a makeshift studio near the property of my fiance’s family cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin. This was the view out of my studio window. One of my favorite things about the landscape here is how the dense foliage seems to relent only for the water bodies. It’s green and brown in every direction until suddenly the woods break and there is sky on the ground, a big sweeping northern sky reflected in the clear pools that dot the map.
