At the outset of every great adventure is a starting point - a trailhead, a sign, a road, something that separates the before from the after. Through the Looking Glass explores this as manmade structures punctuate an otherwise wild landscape, providing both points of entry into it, and a welcome back from it. The trailhead feels different at the start and end of a hike as the time spent in between those two moments in time inevitably change you. I also wanted to hint at the disappointment felt when you charge out into the unknown, seeking escape from all things human, and you stumble upon the edge of “nature” as a building comes into sight. Perhaps the trail was not as wild as you thought it was. Does it still count then? Must all of our wild spaces be surrounded by humanity? In a world where untouched open space is increasingly hard to find, it has to be good enough.
