Toroweap is the name of the well-known Grand Canyon overlook depicted in this painting. Because the waters of the Colorado River are a water source for so many western communities, I used the rainbow-like arches of the piece that seem to draw from the Colorado River to symbolize the high import of this valuable resource. I rafted the Grand Canyon some years back - a trip that imparted in me a deep sense of respect for the ability of water to carve out the grand ancient structures that form the walls of this stunning canyon.
