You Are A Snow Globe

Ever since I started painting full time I experience my time outside differently. My painter’s eye can’t help but look for “paintable” moments everywhere I go and often I am unexpectedly stopped in my tracks as the quiet beauty of a passing scene seems to freeze in time before me, as if captured forever in a snow globe. I snap a mental picture, or a real one if I can, and log it as something to paint in the studio later. This painting is just an ode to that phenomenon, painted off of some reference photos of a glowing, wooded landscape I snapped during a hike outside of Bozeman, Montana. It was just me and the snow and the trees and shadows and I couldn’t help but want to take it with me somehow.
